Department of Architecture

An event titled "Architects and Interior Architects under the Spotlight" was held at Akıngüç Auditorium and Art Center annually organized in cooperation with the Faculty of Architecture, Architecture Club, and Interior Architecture and Design Club, on Monday, December 26. At the event, certificates were granted to our students, with high honor degrees, granted awards in competitions and participated in social responsibility projects. The event was concluded with the stage performance of İKU Orchestra.

As part of the Istanbul Kültür University the Department of Architecture activities, the "Most Successful Project Awards" were granted to the recipients on Thursday, December 22, 2022.

In every fall and spring semester the best projects of the "Architectural Design" courses in the previous semester are determined by vote among the faculty members. With the selection, the project with the highest votes is determined.

The project titled “A Mobile Application that Generates Alternative Tourism Routes Based on Artificial Intelligence Routing Algorithms: The Example of Amasya”, conducted by Prof. Dr. Emel Birer, one of our faculty members of the Department of Architecture, was entitled to be supported within the scope of TÜBİTAK 3005 – Innovative Solutions in Social and Human Sciences Research Projects.

IKU Architecture Club held an event titled “Candid with Emre” on Thursday, December 1 at 15.00, with Architect Emre Arolat as the speaker. The students showed great interest in the event held at Önder Öztunalı Conference Hall in our Ataköy campus. The event, in which Arolat shared his own insight and talked about his own experiences, was concluded after the questions posed by the students were answered.

The article titled “Healthy Buildings and Covid-19” by Prof. Dr. Esra Bostancıoğlu, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Architecture & one of our faculty members of the Department of Architecture, was published in the 31st issue of the “Güney Mimarlık” magazine of the Adana branch of TMMOB Chamber of Architects.

On the initiative of Başakşehir District National Education Directorate, and Başakşehir Living Lab, it was decided to establish a high school specializing in artificial intelligence and related fields in Başakşehir. For this purpose, a number of serial studies were carried out under the leadership of the Directorate of National Education. The first of these studies was the report study, which aimed to draw a conceptual framework with the participation of various stakeholders, by focusing on the added value that this high school will produce and the areas where it will affect.

One of the academicians of the Department of Architecture, Prof. Dr. Emel Birer's conversation titled "Sensory Collage" was published in the October 2022 issue of TOKİ News magazine, in which Mimari Collage has been the subject of the file.

Deputy Head of The Department of Architecture, Assist. Prof. Zeynep Ayşe Gökşin attended the "New Approaches in Design Seminar Program" organized virtually by the EXPLOREDRAFT Platform on 12-13 November 2022 as a guest speaker and made a presentation titled "Participatory Approaches in Housing-Based Transformation: A Reading on the Historical Process and Experiences".  In the seminar program, topics such as urban acupuncture, structured urbanization and participatory approaches were discussed.

Within the scope of the "International Ceramic Bathroom Kitchen Fair" held at the Istanbul Expo Centre between 7-11 November 2022, the "Bathroom Design Workshop" event was held on Tuesday, November 8, with the participation of IKU Faculty of Architecture students and lecturers, under the direction of Architect Dicle Hökenek.

A seminar titled “Right After Graduation: Being an Architect” was held on Monday, November 7, between 12.30-13.30, as part of the 2022-2023 Fall Semester activities of the IKU Department of Architecture. Architect & Real Estate Developer Çağrı Kanver participated in the event held at Akıngüç Auditorium and Art Center as the speaker.
