Department of Architecture

Michal KACZMARZYK, Marcin CZARNOBREWY, Jakub TOMICZEK and Mariusz KOWALSKI, from Departments of Architecture and Foreign Languages ​​of the University of Applied Science in Nysa (Poland), paid a visit to the İKÜ Department of Architecture as a part of the Erasmus + Staff Mobility, and carried out a program titled "Graphic illumination and the language of the city" on 4 April 2024.

Within the scope of the "ARC0802 Workshop II" course opened under the directorship of Assoc. Prof. Gamze Alptekin in the Department of Architecture in English Program, Architect Mert Cem Şengil and Architect Nida Sabaz from Kaleseramik company were guests of our university. Our guests, who gave a seminar titled "Facade Systems by Kaleseramik" at the event held on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, explained the general features of porcelain tile and kalesinterflex products, the application techniques on the facade, and the application examples of the materials.

Within the scope of the 2023-2024 Spring Semester activities of the Department of Architecture, one of our graduates of 2004, Master Architect Berrin Ulutaş met with our students. In the event held on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at the Önder Öztunalı Conference Hall in the Ataköy building of Bakırköy campus, Ulutaş explained their journey in their professional life to our students with examples of the projects they have realized in Türkiye, Middle East countries and the USA.

As a part of the "ARC0802 Workshop II" course in the Department of Architecture English Program led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gamze Alptekin,Ali Tuna Şenatlı civil engineer and Marketing Manager Const. from Çuhadaroğlu Metal Industry and Marketing company was received as a guest by IKU. Şenatlı, who gave a seminar on aluminum joinery systems and curtain wall systems at the event held on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, showed examples of the wide product range of the Çuhadaroğlu company, which is 100% domestic and celebrated its 70th anniversary, and the projects the company carried out worldwide.

Within the scope of the "ARC0802 Workshop II" course led by Assoc. Prof. Gamze Alptekin from the Department of Architecture English Program, ESKA Metal San. Tic. LIKE. Master Architect Göker Algan from the company was the guest of our university. Algan, who gave a seminar on "Metal Coating Facade Systems" at the event to be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 presented the types of metal applied on building facades together with material examples. In the seminar, application details of the metal cladding systems used on the facade were also explained.

Selçuk Avcı was the guest of the "Architecture Conversations" series, which has become a tradition in the Department of Architecture. The interview titled "Principles/Obsession/Desires with Selçuk Avcı" took place on Thursday, March 21, 2024, hosted by The Circle, which he founded.

The "Best Project Awards", which has become a tradition in the Department of Architecture, were announced at the exhibition held on Thursday, March 14 at 12.30. The jury consists of faculty members of the Department of Architecture; In Turkish and English programs, "Architectural Design" courses in the 2022-2023 Spring Semester and 2023-2024 Fall Semester selected the best project of each group among the projects completed in the project groups. Certificates were presented to the owners of the most successful projects selected by the Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, Prof. Dr.

The "The Best Project Awards", proving to be a tradition in the Department of Architecture, will be announced at the exhibition held on Thursday, March 14 at 12.30 in the 2nd floor C corridor of the Bakırköy campus Ataköy building. The jury consisting of faculty members of the Department of Architecture, selected the best project of each program among the projects produced in the project groups within the "Architectural Design" courses in Turkish and English programs.

A trip was organized to the construction site of a housing project in Bakırköy as part of the “ARC0802 Workshop II” course given by Assoc. Prof. Gamze Alptekin, from the Department of Architecture English Program, on Tuesday, March 5.  The students, who were informed by the Project Manager Master Architect Özgür Onur, in particular about the details of the foundation and basement walls and other structural details, had the opportunity to see the applications on site.

Graduates of the Department of Architecture came together at the Kültür College Alumni Association Club on Sunday, March 3.  The alumni meeting evet was attended by Prof. Dr. Koray Gökhan, who served as the Head of the Department in the establishment of the Department of Architecture in 1998, Lecturer Müfide Aksoy  who has given basic design and sculpture courses for many years, Assoc. Prof. Gamze Alptekin from the IKU Department of Architecture in particular among other faculty, Graduates of the Department of Architecture from the first and subsequent years.
