"ARCHITECTURE AND CITY" THEMED INTERNATIONAL MASK DESIGN COMPETITION

Finalists were determined in the International Mask Design Contest with the theme of "Architecture and the City" organized by the Department of Architecture of Istanbul Kultur University between March 10 and April 7, 2021. At the jury session on April 9, 2021, the qualifiers were held in two stages. 6 works selected for the final among 177 works were opened to voting.

THE INTERNATIONAL PATENT SUCCESS OF OMER SAATCIOĞLU, FACULTY MEMBER OF THE DEPARTMENT OF ARCHITECTURE

Istanbul Kultur University Faculty of Architecture, Department of Architecture faculty member Dr. N.Ömer SAATCIOĞLU's invention named "A Masonry Wall System" within the framework of the Hay-Bale Building Design studies in accordance with the conditions of Turkey was registered as an international patent (PCT) on behalf of our university. This registered invention is the first international patent of our university and faculty. N.Ömer SAATCIOĞLU has five inventions, three of which are registered and two of which are in the process of acceptance.

“THE CONSTRUCTION SECTOR IN PANDEMIC AND POST-PANDEMIC” PANEL

Istanbul Kultur University Architecture Department organized an e-panel called "Construction Sector in Pandemic and Post-Pandemic" on Tuesday, November 24, between 19.00 and 21.00, with the participation of valuable construction professionals and academics. Master Architect Uğur Özen Özgüven, Civil Engineer Cem Kafadar and Civil Engineer Hakan Ketenci, who participated as speakers at the event moderated by Asst. Prof. Gamze Alptekin, explained the effects of the pandemic process on construction and architectural practices.

"HASANPAŞA GASHOUSE" PANEL

Istanbul Kultur University Architecture Department held an e-panel titled "Hasanpaşa Gashouse" on Tuesday, May 25, 2021, at 20:00. Lecturer Şeyda Şen was the moderator of the panel in which Asst. Prof. Gülsün Tanyeli, Asst. Prof. Yıldız Salman and Assoc. Prof. Deniz Aslan participated as speakers. In the event, which was held over the Microsoft Teams application, the conservation approaches of Hasanpaşa Gashouse, the design principles of the re-functioning project of the building and the implementation process were conveyed.

RETHİNKİNG BAUHAUS AT ITS 100TH YEAR

IKU Architecture Department organized a panel titled “Rethinking Bauhaus on its Centennial” as part of its 65th Architecture Speeches. In the event was held at Önder Öztunalı Conference Hall on Monday, December 2, 2019 at 15.30, Dr. Architect Doğan Hasol with his speech “Bauhaus and Its Reflections on Turkey”, M. Architect M. Zafer Akay with his speech “From Pluralist Weimar to Reductionist Dessau: The Rise and Fall of the Bauhaus and Koray Güler with his speech "The Reconstruction Story of the World Heritage Dessau Master Houses" attended the panel. 

ARCHİTECTURAL TALKS (ARCHI-TALK) 62 – "ARCHITECTURE, WHAT’S NEXT"

Department of Architecture organized a panel entitled ‘’Architecture, What’s Next?’’ with the participations of Chamber of Architects Istanbul Metropolitan Branch Head Esin Köymen, Free Architects Association President Sibel Dalokay Bozer and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality City Council President Tülin Hadi. In the event held on Wednesday, November 20, the speakers informed our students about the potentials of the architectural profession, architectural education and its relations with the architecture industry.

“EXPERIENCEING ISTANBUL” WORKSHOP

A workshop titled "Experiencing Istanbul" was held on Saturday, November 7, 2020, under the leadership of  Asst. Prof. Esin Hasgül, Res. Asst. Dilara Gür and Res. Asst.  Merve Aksoy Oral, academicians from IKU Architecture Department. In the event, in which the historical and cultural layers of Istanbul were explained, individual studies were carried out by assigning areas from the historical peninsula and its immediate surroundings to the students, based on the urban concepts defined by Kevin Lynch.

“GEOMETRY WORKSHOP”

Istanbul Kultur University Department of Architecture held an online geometry workshop for 6 hours on Saturday, November 14, 2020, led by Dr. Suzan Sanlı Esin and Lecturer Pelin Çetken. After the presentations and discussions, a 3-stage study was carried out on a “leaf” image. In the first step, students were asked to look at this leaf photo and create a lifelike image of it. In the second step, it was tried to break this leaf into geometric shapes and represent it as a whole consisting of geometric planes.
