The Profound being in the midst of Nothing
The project area on the Eskişehir road just at the entrance of Söğüt, aims to create a new meeting centre for visitors and locals to meet, communicate and share their ideas with one another. Because of this very reason, instead of constructing a mere object, trying to create a cultural landscape spot was the goal, an area construction in which the impressive natural scenery of Söğüt and the surroundings are intertwined with the rich cultural activities that the centre will provide. A Cultural Centre is not 'built' so much as it is merely ‘unearthed' by carving it out of the ground. This primal architectural strategy creates a building that is fully integrated with the landscape and that takes into account the local architectural traditions, with minimal negative impact. The social life, the folklore, the weddings, the cuisine, the greetings, the public and daily life interactions in Söğüt were the most important inputs considered in the making of the design.
