The aim of the İstanbul Kültür University Department of Architecture is to educate architects who have the responsibility and skills of thinking, questioning, answering and reconstructing lifelong learning. The İKÜ Department of Architecture, which aims to bring architectural education to world standards, is the first accredited Architecture Undergraduate Program among the architecture departments of foundation universities. The Department of Architecture, which began its education in the 1998-1999 Academic Year, continues to provide education with two different programs, both in Turkish and English, since the 2012-2013 Academic Year.
A multidimensional and interdisciplinary understanding of education covering many different components from design knowledge, technology, philosophy and art to the economy, social dynamics and urban changes has been adopted by the İKÜ Department of Architecture in consideration of the versatile process of architectural education. The program content of the İKÜ Faculty of Architecture Department of Architecture is in accordance with the Bologna criteria, which was prepared with the aim of educating architects who are competent on national and international levels, can compete in any environment, produce solutions that are sensitive to the environment and historical values, integrate national identity with global values, look out for the interests of society, respect ethical values, who are equipped with aesthetic values, follow and use the developing technology and have internalized creativity, dynamism and entrepreneurialism.
The education in the Department is delivered by an experienced academic staff, consisting mostly of full-time academicians, who are proficient in English and competent in their subjects and a limited number of external staff, who share their academic and professional experience. Within the framework of student-oriented education, the Department provides a structure that includes design studios as the backbone and theoretical courses that support the backbone. Joint workshops and exhibitions are organized with various schools on an international scale. With the Erasmus+ Program, foreign undergraduate and graduate students come to our Department every year Students studying in our Department also have the opportunity to go to universities abroad for one or two semesters within the scope of our University’s international agreements.
The aim of the Architecture English Program, which provides education in English for foreign students and students who want to get their vocational education in a foreign language, is to follow international studies and increase the participation in these international studies. Erasmus students who come from abroad prefer the English Program. The multinational structure formed by the students who receive education in the English Program, which has a parallel education content with the Architecture Turkish Program, improves the students' achievements with the dynamics arising from the coexistence of different cultures.
