Department of Architecture

Istanbul Kültür University Faculty of Architecture Department of Architecture first-year students won awards in four different categories of the "Murat Artu and the Passion for Architecture Student Competition". As a part of competition, students were asked to design a 'living thing', and were expected to produce designs that describe the characteristics of this living being and approach the matter from the perspective of architecture students.

The Faculty of Architecture organized a trip titled "ArchiphotoTRIP" on Wednesday, May 24, with the participation of students from the Department of Architecture and the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design. The trip, which took place on the route of Galata, Istiklal Street and Karaköy, was organized by Assist. Prof. Aliye Rahşan Karabetça from the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, and Res. Assist. Elif Çileli Umuç from the Department of Architecture.

The Dean of IKU Faculty of Architecture, Prof.  Dr.  Neslihan Dostoğlu and their spouse, who works in the same field, and son were guests of the "2 Generations of Architecture" event series held at the Design Studio Kadıköy (TAK) on Wednesday, May 24, by the Arkitera Architecture Centre with the support of Serge Ferrari.  In this series of events organized by Arkitera, the interaction between different generations in the field of architecture as well as the differences and the dynamics were  discussed by inviting names who have been working in the field of architecture f

A seminar titled “What We Learned from the Kahramanmaraş Earthquake: Right Place, Right Building, Right Supervision” was held on Monday, April 10, 2023, in cooperation with the Department of Architecture of Istanbul Kültür University and the Department of Civil Engineering. Having participated in the event as a speaker, one of our Department of Civil Engineering academicians, Assist. Prof. Erdal Coşkun conveyed his findings about faulty construction in the earthquake region, especially in Kahramanmaraş and Hatay, to students and academics.

The ARC-H-TEC team's project titled "Energy Efficient Living Unit in the Case of Disasters ", which was granted the chance to receive monetary aid under the TÜBİTAK 2209-A University Students Research Projects Support Program in 2022, passed the preliminary evaluation and project evaluation stages of the TEKNOFEST Technology for Humanity Competition in the "Disaster Management" category, “University or Above Level” and became a finalist.

ARC-H-TEC Team Members Are;

Within the scope of the "ARC0104 Ecology and Architecture" course given by Prof. Dr. Filiz Bal Koçyiğit, the students of the Department of Architecture compared the analyses of the structures built with modern and local architectural methods in different climatic regions of the world according to the Köppen-Geiger climate classifications. Our students, who modelled the buildings they chose, analysed indoor and outdoor daylight and wind, turned their work into videos.

IKU Faculty of Architecture Dean Prof.  Dr.  Neslihan Dostoğlu, on 18 February 2023 at Kültür Radio and Television (KRT) appeared as a guest on the programme titled “Is Istanbul Earthquake Prepared?” alongside Prof.  Dr.  Ahmet Ercan, Prof.  Dr.  Ali Kahriman, Prof.  Dr. Fuat Ercan, Archaeologist Nezih Başgelen, Prof.  Dr.  Okan Tüysüz, Assoc.  Dr. Ali Tolga and Architect Tezcan Karakuş Candan.

One of the activities carried out under the subject of "Unifying Cultural Forces for the Earthquake-effected Region" after the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes shook our country, was in-house trainings.  With that, Assoc.  Dr.  Evren Burak Enginöz, gave a seminar titled "How Should We Prepare for Earthquakes and the Aftermath?" on February 20, 2023.
