Department of Architecture

Istanbul Kultur University (IKU) Architecture Department organized the “Body-Space-Performance Workshop” between 8-12 April. Ataköy Campus hosted the event organized by one of our instructors, Res. Asst. Çisem Soylu and Res. Asst. Ufuk Küçükyazıcı. Tuğçe Tuna, Burcu Uçatenik, Derya Yorgancıoğlu, Erhan Karakoç, Yeşim Okur, Bersu Çelik, Swing İstanbul Dance School, Mehmet Kerem Özel, Berkay Ateş, Demet Kurtoğlu Taşdelen, Ozan, participated in the workshop where the relationship between body and space was re-examined in the axis of dance, theater and performance art.

In order to rearrange the backyard of IKU Ataköy campus in line with student requests and needs, a workshop was held on March 6-7, 2020, open to the participation of the students of the Department of Architecture and the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design. With the support of Dr. Suzan Sanlı and Master Landscape Architect Defne Akyol, our IKU Department of Architecture lecturers, 8 projects were prepared under the direction of our research assistants in the workshop attended by 56 students.

In order to rearrange the backyard of IKU Ataköy campus in line with student requests and needs, a workshop open to the participation of the students of the Department of Architecture and Interior Architecture and Environmental Design of our university was held on March 6-7, 2020. The exhibition and presentation of the participation certificates of the "Design Your Garden and Let’s Make It Together" workshop held by the Faculty of Architecture were held online on Tuesday, March 30, 2021.

Workshop Organizing Committee:

In the "Be a Part" workshop, which was held on Saturday, October 17, 2020, under the leadership of Asst. Prof. Esin Hasgül, Res. Asst. Dilara Gür and Res. Asst. Merve Aksoy Oral, academicians from the Department of Architecture, individual studies were carried out on the individual pieces given to the students after the general lecture on the basic design criteria and the induction method. The students were asked to design parts of Moshe Safdie's "Habitat 67" mass housing project, which was built as a part of Expo '67, in three dimensions using the materials they had.

Department of Architecture organized the "Color and Character in Space Workshop" with the participation of our 2011 graduate, Master Architect Ecem Kocaarslan Mutlu, on Wednesday, November 20, between 09.00-12.30. In the workshop held as part of the "MIM1011 Basic Design" course conducted by Assoc. Prof. Emel Birer, Res. Asst. Şeyda Şen and Res. Asst. Ufuk Küçükyazıcı in the fall semester of 2019-2020, students designed their own characters by working on color theories.

Istanbul Kultur University Department of Architecture organized the workshop "How Many Spaces Can We Produce With a Meaning and Element Inventory?". In the work carried out under the management of Lecturer Suzan Sanlı Esin, Master Architect Canan Ganiç and Res. Asst. İdil Akkuzu, experiments were carried out to produce alternative spaces with floor, ceiling and wall archetypes.

Istanbul Kültür University Department of Architecture continues to bring together the world's famous architects with its students and the architectural environment in the 2020-2021 Spring Semester. The last speaker of the online conference series was the famous Turkish Architect Ferda Kolatan on Tuesday, May 18, 2021, at 20:00. Kolatan, the Founding Director of SU11 Architecture + Design Office, is also an associate professor at the University of Pennsylvania Weitzman School of Design.

Istanbul Kültür University Department of Architecture continues to bring together the world's famous architects with its students and the architectural environment in the 2020-2021 Spring Semester. The second guest of the online conference series was the famous architect Romi Khosla on Wednesday, March 7, 2021, at 17.00. After graduating from the AA School of Architecture in London, Khosla founded Design Studios in India and has designed more than a hundred buildings with national and international awards.

Istanbul Kultur University Faculty of Architecture, Department of Architecture continues to bring together the world's famous architects with its students and the architectural environment online in the 2020-2021 Fall Semester. The second guest of the conference series held on the Adobe Connect Virtual Classroom Application on Wednesday, November 18, 2020, was Hashim Sarkis, Dean of the MIT Faculty of Architecture and Planning and Curator of the 2020 International Venice Architecture Biennale.

Istanbul Kultur University Department of Architecture brings together the world's famous architects with its students and the architectural environment online in the 2020-2021 Fall Semester. The first speaker of the conference series was the famous American Architect & Academician Eric Owen Moss.
